| 11/27/2010 : Autorama @ GRB |
We’ve had a few folks ask if we are going to participate in the Autorama. The short answer is yes.
At this point we have a basic plan - a “casual” parade on Saturday and a show and build-off on Sunday.
Our primary day will be Sunday when they will give us a large portion of Hall A. All Art Cars that wish to be part of the show for a day will be welcome at no charge. We expect to have an “illuminated” section and perhaps a black light section as well. We are also planning to have an “Art Car build-off” with 3 or 4 teams of Art Car Artists & High School/Vocational School kids to tie in with the workshops that Autorama conducts on Saturday. Each team will start with the same base car and a trailer load of “attachables” and have 4-6 hours to complete the build. We’re not sure how the competition part will work, but it may be that the “best” or “most popular one” will continue to be built and illuminated over the next month for entry into GLOWORAMA.
For Saturday, we are planning a “casual” car parade to follow the same route as the GLOW parade – along the front of the GRB. This will be open to all cars – Arted up or not, so is an opportunity for those of you with “collector” cars to enter the parade with something other than an Art Car. We expect that Art Cars will be the lead group followed by 10 or so car clubs in groups of 8-10 cars each. As the route is so short, we’re proposing a “cruise-in” where different groups of cars start from different points in the city, converge on a point in downtown (Market Square? Midtown?), have a bite/beverage, then split up again for a “spaghetti rally” through downtown where the paths of the car groups cross each other and eventually wind up near the start line for the parade. The parade itself will be more of a first come, first roll, by car club with per-car payment on the day-of. To avoid parade insurance, it will be limited to registered, insured vehicles.
We will know more by mid-September so are planning a meeting for September 13. We’ll send out the details when the location is confirmed.
